Pine Flats Campground - Visitor's Guide

Pine Flat Campground is a popular camping area along the Mad River. It's about 10 miles from Ardenvoir and only 14 from Entiat.


The campground is quite small, containing only a few first-come-first-serve campsites. Visitors should also be aware of the group campground, which can host up to 50 people and as few as 20.


The campground is close to the river as well as the Lower Mad River Trailhead. It is open from April to November yearly.

Location and Getting There

Most people access this campground from the south via Highway 97 and Forest Service Road 5700. It's about 1 hour from Wenatchee, Washington, and 3 hours from Seattle.

Pine Flats Campground is located near the Wenatchee River, which is a popular spot for fishing. You can catch trout, salmon, and steelhead in the river.



Kayaking and Canoeing

The Wenatchee River is also a great place to paddle. You can rent kayaks or canoes in nearby towns like Leavenworth and Cashmere.


Mountain Biking

The area around Pine Flats Campground has several mountain biking trails.


Visit Lake Chelan

Lake Chelan is a beautiful lake in Washington State that's known for its clear blue water and surrounding vineyards. Here are some things you can do when you visit:

  • Wine Tasting: Lake Chelan is home to over 30 wineries, many of which offer tastings and tours. Some popular wineries include Tsillan Cellars, Karma Vineyards, and Benson Vineyards Estate Winery.

  • Hiking: The area around Lake Chelan has several hiking trails.

  • Shopping and Dining: The town of Chelan has several shops and restaurants, including local favorites like Lakeview Drive-In and Campbell's Pub & Veranda.

  1. Wenatchee Confluence State Park: Located at the confluence of the Columbia and Wenatchee Rivers, this park offers hiking, fishing, boating, and camping. It also has a playground, picnic areas, and a swimming beach.

2. Lincoln Rock State Park: This park is located on the banks of the Columbia River and offers camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and swimming. It also has picnic areas, playgrounds, and a boat launch. We recommend the Rocky Reach Trail!

3. Lake Chelan State Park: This park is located on the southern shore of Lake Chelan and offers camping, hiking, boating, and swimming. It also has picnic areas and a playground. You can even visit in winter!

4. Entiat City Park: This park is located on the banks of the Entiat River and offers camping, fishing, boating, and swimming. It also has picnic areas and a boat launch.


5. Daroga State Park: This park is located on the banks of the Columbia River and offers camping, hiking, fishing, and boating. It also has picnic areas and a boat launch.


We highly recommend checking out the Mad River Trail (because it's so close!) as well as the Steliko Lookout Trail (3.7 miles) and the Entiat Park Trail (3.2 miles). These are all pretty easy! For something harder, you could try the Pot Peak Trail, which is 18 miles long and takes an impressive 10 hours to complete!



Other Campgrounds Near Pine Flats

There are a large number of campgrounds in this area. So, if Pine Flats is full, you should check out one of these other options:


Prairie Spring Campground

Located south of Pine Flats Campground, Prairie Spring is somewhat harder to access. It's a primitive site, meaning that there are no real amenities to speak of.


Deep Creek Campground

Deep Creek Campground is a very, very popular campground near Lake Chelan. It's around 1,800 feet above sea level and is located next to a creek. There are a total of 92 sites in the campground, all of which include tables and grills.



Meadow Creek Campground

Meadow Creek Campground is on the Chiwawa River, only a few miles from Fish Lake. There are tent and RV sites available, and you're unlikely to see many people there.


Snowberry Bowl Campground

This is another less-commonly visited campground that's along the 25 Mile Creek Drainage. It's not far from Chelan but close enough to enjoy the lake if you want to. There are 7 single sites and 2 group sites here as well.
